Max Murphy
Max (He/Him) is a first-year tattoo artist from Chicago, Illinois. He holds a BFA from the University of Illinois, and worked as a graphic designer for five years before starting his tattoo journey.
Max specializes in a style that synthesizes blackwork, elements of graphic design, geometry, pattern, and thoughtful use of color and negative space to create nuanced, ornamental works that feel at home on the client’s body. He draws inspiration for his designs from traditional Japanese textile patterns and folklore, anime, plants and animals, and sci-fi/fantasy media. All of Max’s tattoo designs are hand-drawn 100% from scratch before the appointment. Max’s favorite colors to tattoo are black, red, orange, yellow, and pink ;)
In his free time, Max plays a lot of videogames, watches a lot of anime, and loves spending time with his husband Andrew and dog Bowser.
