About the studio

Living Lore Tattoo was founded by tattoo artists Robyn Jones and Max Murphy, and opened in February, 2023. Both owners always felt drawn to the sense of community in Ellicott City, and dreamed of opening a studio that would live up to the standard of excellence set by other small businesses in the Old Ellicott City area. Living Lore Tattoo was designed to break some of the negative stereotypes garnered by old-school tattoo street shops, focusing on professionalism, a comfortable and safe client experience, and art-forward tattoo designs. Living Lore Tattoo is proud to be an upstanding member of the Main Street commerce area, and looks forward to future outreach and charity opportunities.

Eco-friendly

At Living Lore Tattoo, we understand that by its need for single-use items, the tattoo industry is a contributor to pollution and environmental damages. The use of non-biodegradable supplies like latex gloves, and the excessive consumption of tree-based products like paper towels is rampant in shops across the country. Living Lore recognizes this shortcoming, and strives to minimize our carbon footprint as much as possible, while still providing an industry-leading standard of care for our clients. We use certified biodegradable nitrile gloves, barriers, and other eco-friendly supplies to help offset our own contribution to global climate change. Inclusivity statement

As an LGBTQIA-owned business, Living Lore Tattoo will always be a safe space for clients of all races, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, body-types, abilities, and backgrounds. We strive to learn more every day about those who are different from us, and aim to apply that knowledge to continue making our studio a comfortable and positive environment for everyone.

Mission statement

At Living Lore Tattoo, our mission is to provide excellent quality custom tattoo body art to our clients in a safe, friendly environment. We strive to provide the best of what tattooing can be, upholding a modern standard for ethics and inclusivity, while discarding toxic and outdated street shop practices.
